CRASH

My family enjoys celebrating every occasion with a chai from Starbucks. Yesterday it snowed. Reason enough to go into Sugar house for a hot chai.

We were in my parents Highlander. My Dad was driving, Mom was in the passenger seat, Munchkin and I were in the back seat. Every body was wearing seat belts and Munchkin was strapped snugly in his car seat.

While in the intersection of Wilmington Ave. and 1300 East waiting to make a left-hand turn the light changed to yellow. Many cars rushed through the yellow light, trying to milk every last second. Finally the light turned red and we had to clear the intersection. It appeared that all of the cars from the opposing direction were coming to a stop for the red light. We began our left-hand turn when all of a sudden a car emerged from the red light heading straight for us at full speed. This car came through the red light and hit us with such force that our car was spun to face the opposite direction from which we were originally facing.

Immediately following the accident we asked if everyone was alright. Although extremely shaken, no injuries prevailed. Everyone is going to be OK.

The driver of the other car was cited with running a red light and negligence, resulting in an automobile accident.

Today as I move about the house I notice little aches and pains, but nothing major. I am keeping a close eye on Munchkin and he seems to be as happy as ever.

A close call like this makes me think about the "what-if's". There are many possibilities that this accident could have been so much worse. I know that it does me no good to think about the horror this accident could have caused, yet I can't help but think how close we came to serious injury or worse.

I am truly lucky to be sitting here now with a healthy Munchkin and two healthy parents. My family is so precious to me. It is frightning that something so unnecessary and preventable could have caused such catastrophic damage.

The Highlander served us well. It took the brunt of the collision and will be good as new before too long. BTW, the air bags did not diploy because of the site of the impact: right hand corner of the bumper. As for the car seat, it was worth every cent we paid for it. I glad we didn't skimp on our baby's safety.

Mikelle: This was the complete fault of the other driver. We had three witnesses wait around for the police because the woman that ran the red light did it so flagrantly. Damn her! The car in front of her was slowing down to stop at the light and she made a quick lane change and excellerated through the intersection while it was red. She must have been in a big hurry. Too bad, she spent the next hour sitting in her "totaled" car while the police ticketed her. Temp outside was 27 degrees. Jeremy came and picked all of us up.

Scared us too!Thank God it wasn't any worse than the front bumper. It does make you appreciate life as the situation could of had a different ending. We are thankful all is well with only minor aches.

I'm glad to hear that you are all ok. I know how scary it is, I've been in 3 of the 4 accidents we had recently, and the kids were only with us one of the times... Thankfully! One of the times we hit black ice on the freeway, in the right hand lane, and slid all the way across the freeway, at 6:00 a.m. and hit the concrete barrier facing the wrong way! I don't know how no one hit us when there were several vehicles behind us. As if that wasn't scary enough, our accelerator was stuck so we had to turn the truck off and sit in the cold for over an hour waiting for the police to show up. The 1st accident was caused when there was a freak storm and some guy rear ended us. He totaled his pickup, our damage wasn't bad, but the paramedics almost put me on oxygen because for a split second I thought we had the kids in the truck and I had the most severe panic attack I've ever had and I didn't have my meds with me. No fun. Again, I am so happy that you guys are alright!!!

Oh my goodness! I had no idea anyone was involved in an accident! I'm so glad that all of you are safe! Good job with the seatbelts (I'm still trying to teach my Dad that he always needs to wear his)!
